WELCOME TO MY PAGE 🙂
Hi, I am Mari. Originally from Ireland, I have been living in Malta for over 8 years and have practiced various styles of Yoga for over a decade.
I completed Yoga Teacher Training in India in 2016. I am a 200 hour certified Traditional Hatha Yoga Teacher, and also a certified SUP Yoga Teacher having completed SUP Yoga Teacher Training with @SUP Yoga Teacher Training Malta.
Just for fun I also practice Acro Yoga and SUP Acro Yoga!
My Yoga Journey
My Yoga Journey began with a need to relieve physical pain and has lead to discovering and opening so many wonderful new doors that I had no idea existed.
I have Scoliosis (Curvature of the spine) and suffered for many years from a chronic back pain. I spent years taking prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers. When the pain became unbearable and nothing seemed to work I turned to Yoga.
Through consistent and regular, mindful Yoga practice along with dietary changes and natural pain management, I have now been completely pain free for almost 3 years!
I have also suffered for many years from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, brought on by the sudden death of my younger brother when he was 19 years old. This resulted in severe and chronic anxiety, insomnia, panic attacks and debilitating depression for almost 10 years.
In a quest to avoid being medicated for these issues, and a profound need for peace and having already realised the physical benefits of Yoga, I found myself again turning to my yoga practice and meditation, this time not for the physical benefits, but on a much deeper level for the effects that regular and mindful practice has on our mental health.
Yoga has allowed me to be a warrior and survivor and has provided the coping skills needed to deal with the inevitable stress and tragedy that life will throw at us all, by being able to look inside and find all the love and support we need from within ourselves.
My experience with Yoga and the benefits it has had on my life, led me to pursue Yoga Teacher Training in India in 2016. My goal is to share this beautiful practice with as many people as I can.
Maybe you don’t know much about Yoga?
Yoga originating in India, is said to date back as far as 10,000 years. Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning to join or union. Yoga is to join, Person to Person, Body to Mind, Mind and Soul.
Thanks to simple but effective sequences of Asana (postures) combined with breathing techniques, yoga allows us to stretch and relax the muscles while bringing peace to the mind to achieve mind and body balance.
As you progress with the Asana practice, you will improve your core strength and joint flexibility, to allow your body to achieve improved mobility.
By combining Asana practice with mindful breathing you will feel a deeper connection between your body, mind and soul.
What are the benefits of Yoga for your daily life?
The benefits of Yoga are endless,
- The aim of practicing postures (Asana) is to achieve a healthy body and to achieve a peaceful, stable mind by strengthening various systems within the body.
- Yoga practice increases body awareness and connects the mind and body.
- Yoga promotes relaxed and deep breathing improving the function of the lungs.
- Yoga improves flexibility, mobility, posture, muscle tone, digestion, and has a positive effect on the nervous system, aiding mental well-being., amongst many other benefits.
- Yoga can assist in injury recovery and weight loss.
Is Yoga for everyone?
Yes, absolutely!
Yoga truly is for Every Body – any age, any body type, any size, any level of mobility or flexibility and any gender.
In recent years it has become increasingly popular within many professional sports people and athletes such as footballers and mixed martial artists as a way to increase joint flexibility and avoid injuries.
Yoga practice should never be painful. Hatha Yoga is slow, controlled and comfortable movement.
Just follow at your own pace, breath and allow the body to naturally progress with patience, kindness and a little self-love.
Can the practise of yoga interfere with my religion?
Not at all!
It can actually help you to be more at peace with yourself and with the world around you which resonates with any religion in the world!
Yoga is focused on breathing correctly and on stretching and toning your muscles to be more relaxed and flexible.
Yoga can only improve your life!

Patience & Understanding
Well, here’s a lady who knows her stuff. I’ve had terrible back pain for nearly 2 years, had an MRI, been on pain killers you name it I’ve taken it, but one day a friend of mine suggested YOGA. I signed up for the 10 week beginners course with Mari and after only 2 sessions the pain in my back was so much better, after another 2 sessions the pain had gone completely. It really does feel like a miracle and I can’t thank Mari enough. I tried the SUP YOGA a couple of weeks ago, great fun and lovely to be on the water but I’ll need a little more practice before I can stand up on the board without toppling over! Mari’s patience and understanding of my aches and pains means alot, she even tailored the moves for me, now that’s a brilliant YOGA teacher in my book. I can’t recommend Mari highly enough, a lovely lady with a heart of gold and a wealth of experience under her belt. You’ll be in safe hands.
A teacher that is Caring, patient what more could you want from your yoga teacher in Mellieha
I started a 30 day yoga challenge with Mari. I was a beginner, I had been to a few classes but nothing really teaches you as well as a one to one tuition. Don’t let Mari’s photos put you off, don’t compare yourself and say I can’t do that! I started with no flexibility and by the end of the 30 days I was bendy! The 30 days for me was a present to myself for my 30th birthday it was a journey not only from a flexibility, physical perspective but also the whole body, mind and spirit! Mari was great guiding me through it all. Even though now it has ended, I am still attending Mari’s classes as often as I can do. I do prefer the ones outside in fresh air and with nature with the classes being first thing too it works for me on the beach and weekends I go to sup yoga – Mellieha is amazing again not as hard as you may imagine. My top tips are don’t be afraid to try and don’t compare yourself to others or Mari doing Yoga.
Caring and professional
Extremely sweet and caring, just like a sister would be. Thanks for that superb session in the water! Can’t wait to join again !
